ROLLA, Mo. – For the third consecutive year, Missouri S&T's men's soccer team is the recipient of the Great Lakes Valley Conference's sportsmanship award, as voted on by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee members from around the league.
The team won the award after a season in which it finished 8-6-2 and 7-6-1 in the GLVC. The Miners, coached by Joe Ahearn, had one player – senior
Spencer Brinkmeyer (Kansas City, Mo./Oak Park) -- selected to the GLVC's all-conference and NSCAA all-Midwest region team, while team members
Caleb Collier (Springfield, Mo./Kickapoo) and
Adam Stensland (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) were named to the Capital One Academic All-America team for the 2012 season.
The GLVC team sportsmanship award is determined through a voting procedure conducted by each of the league's 16 member institutions through their Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The conference sponsors this award in each of the 18 league sports.
The other award recipients for the fall season were the men's and women's cross country teams from Drury University, the football team from the University of Indianapolis, the volleyball team from Maryville University and the women's soccer teams from the University of Illinois Springfield and Maryville University.
