Box Score (Indianapolis, Ind.) – The Missouri S&T Miner volleyball team had a 2-0 lead and was one set away from advancing to its first ever GLVC tournament championship match and possibly locking up a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Unfortunately, the Miners (20-13) were unable to finish as the Lewis Flyers (26-9) won the next three sets to come from behind and win
3-2 (25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 21-25, 9-15) on Saturday evening in the semifinals of the conference tournament held at the Indy South Sports Academy in Indianapolis, Ind.
S&T will learn on Sunday evening at 9 p.m. if it's been selected to its second straight NCAA Tournament. A watch party will be held in the Hall of Fame Room inside the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. It will begin at 8:30 p.m. followed by the selection show at nine. All S&T fans are invited to watch with the team.
The Miners took advantage of a struggling Lewis attack in the first two sets. The Flyers recorded 25 kills but committed 17 errors in 96 swings and were held to .083 hitting percentage. S&T had 19 kills against only nine errors in 75 attempts for a .133 hitting percentage.
Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) and Haley Wright had five kills apiece in the first two frames to lead the Miners. Jen Krumwiede led all players with nine kills while Carly Pershnick added seven more for Lewis.

The S&T attack began to go the other way as they also had 15 kills, but committed nine errors in 56 swings to hit .107. The Flyers led by as many as six in the third frame on the way to a 25-21 win. Perschnick and Krumwiede combined for nine of those 15 kills.
The fourth set was tied at 8-all before Lewis moved in front 10-8 taking advantage of back-to-back attack errors by the Miners. S&T responded with a 6-1 run to take a 14-11 lead. That would be its last lead of the set as the Flyers scored seven straight points to take an 18-14 advantage. The Miners would cut the deficit to 18-17 on a stuff block from
Kelly Kosmopolis (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) and Haley Wright, but wouldn't get any closer than a point the rest of the way. Lewis led 20-19 when it ran off three straight points to take control at 23-19. S&T got two of those points back, but an error by
Katie McDonald (Orland Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) and a kill by Colleen Mitros gave the Flyers the set at 25-21.
In the fifth set the Miners scored the first point of the frame, but Lewis responded with a 9-1 run to take complete control of the set at 9-2. S&T closed to within 10-6, but wouldn't get closer than that as the Flyers scored five of the last eight points to take the set 15-9.
The Miners finished the match with 54 kills against 28 errors in 197 swings to hit .132 percent. Wright led three players in double figures with 16 kills. Meyer had 13 kills while
