Box Score (Rensselaer, Ind.) – The Missouri S&T Volleyball team snapped its four match losing streak and remained unbeaten in Great Lakes Valley Conference action with a
3-1 (25-12, 32-34, 25-17, 25-21) win at Saint Joseph's College on Saturday evening.
The Miners (14-9, 10-0 GLVC) dominated the opening set winning 25-12. S&T had 14 kills in the set and hit .267 percent. Defensively they held the Pumas (6-18, 0-10 GLVC) to .032 hitting percentage and just six kills.
The second set was a see-saw affair that saw SJC win 34-32. S&T hit .255 percent and had 21 kills while the Pumas had two more kills in two more chances but hit just .228 percent.
The third set belonged to the Miners as they hit an outstanding .441 percent and had 17 kills in 34 attempts against just two errors. Saint Joseph's was just as good recording 11 kills against two errors in 39 attempts to finish hitting .231 percent.
The fourth set was S&T's as well as they recorded 18 kills in 47 chances against seven errors to finish hitting .234 percent. The Miner defense held the Pumas to a negative .071 hitting percentage as they committed eight errors against five kills in 42 chances.
S&T finished the match with 70 kills. It was led by
Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) with 19.
Hayley Wright (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) chipped in with 13 while
Alison Mueller (Bartelso, Ill./Mater Dei ) contributed 12 to the attack. For the match the Miners hit .289 percent and held Saint Joseph's to a .118 hitting percentage.
Jennifer Costello (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South ) was three kills shy of her second career triple-double. She finished with seven kills, 55 assists and 16 digs.
Jocelyn DeMotte (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) led five players in double figures in digs with 30.
Morgan Smith (Nixa, Mo./Nixa) added 12 while
Jennifer Kegler (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) and Meyer had 11 each.
The Pumas were led by Erin Hyland and Hannah Bedan with 13 and 10 kills respectively. Leah Zehme had 21 assists while Alyssa Guarnaccia had 19 digs.
S&T returns to action on Sunday afternoon when it travels to Indianapolis for a showdown with the 10
th ranked Greyhounds. It's a matchup of division leaders and lone unbeaten in league play.
