Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners snapped a two-game skid scoring a season-high three goals in its
3-1 win over Kentucky Wesleyan at home on Friday.
S&T (6-7, 4-7 GLVC) broke on top in the 21
st minute when
Kirstin Kurilla (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) scored her second goal of the season knocking home a loose ball in front of the goal from
Kimberly Ekholm (Houston, Texas/Cy-Springs ). That would be the lone goal in the stanza as the Lady Miners went into the locker room with a 1-0 edge. S&T outshot the Panthers (0-11-1, 0-10-1) 8-6 in the opening 45 minutes. Both sides had three shots on goal.
The Lady Miners extend their lead 1:41 into the second half as
Suzy DeWael (McCordsville, Ind./Mt. Vernon High School) redirected a ball into the goal from
Kelsey Salzman (Blue Springs, Mo./Notre Dame de Sion) and Ekholm. For DeWael it's her second goal of the season. KWC cut the lead in half scoring off a free kick from 30 yards out in the 55
th minute. S&T put the match away 12 minutes later when Ekholm headed home a cross from Salzman for her third goal of the season. The Lady Miners outshot the Panthers 15-4 in the second half and put seven of those on goal.
For the game S&T finished with a 23-10 edge in shots and a 7-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Lady Miners are back at home on Sunday when they host Southern Indiana at the S&T Soccer Field beginning at 12 p.m.
