ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T had the best time in 10 of the 11 events contested Friday evening as it won a home dual meet over Truman State University at the S&T Pool by a count of 114-71.
Phil Arve (Raleigh, N.C., Athens Drive), the lone senior on the Miner team competing at home for the final time in his career Friday, had two wins on an individual basis as he took first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.81 and the 100-yard butterfly, where he posted a time of 52.03 seconds.
Freshman
Ethan Goldfarb (Arlington, Texas/The Oakridge School) also had the best time in two events as he won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:59.67 and later posted a mark of 59.89 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke. The other winning times came from
Jacob Dole (Corbin, Ky./Country Day School) in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.74 seconds,
Hayden Price (Powder Springs, Ga./Hillgrove) in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.26 seconds,
Luis Nesrala (Santo Domingo, D.R./Colegio Amador) in the 100-backstroke in 52.95 seconds,
Sasha Stadnik (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley West) in the 500-freestyle in 4:52.18,
The Miners also had the best marks in both relays, as the 200-yard medley relay team of
Sean Deegan (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill),
Alex Griffin (Chesterfield, Mo./Marquette),
Alfredo Martinez (Mexico City, Mexico/Instituto Cumbres San Javier) and Dole posted a time of 1:37.42 and the 200-yard freestyle quartet of
Matt Zieger (St. Joseph, Mo./Central), Dole, Deegan and Price had a mark of 1:26.93.
Second place finishes were recorded by
Matt Welsh (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) in the 1,000-freestyle in 10:11.61,
Luke Norris (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) in the 200-freestyle in 1:48.00 and 100-free in 48.66,
Nate Kamrath (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) in the 200-IM in 2:00.22,
Ryan Gibson (Jackson, Mo./Jackson) in the 100-butterfly in 54.06 seconds and Deegan in the 100-backstroke in 53.44.
Six Miners had third place showings in Friday's competition, which came from
Ryan Layne (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) in the 1,000-freestyle in 10:12.96, Gibson in the 200-freestyle in 1:49.41, Zieger in the 50-free in 22.40, Martinez in the 200-IM in 2:03.19,
Andrew Simek (O'Fallon, Mo./Fort Zumwalt West) in the 100-butterfly in 55.30 and Kamrath in the 100-back in 54.93.
The Miners' next competition will take place Feb. 3 when they take on defending NCAA Division II national champion Drury in a dual meet in Springfield, Mo.
