ROLLA, Mo. -- After suffering a number of tough losses to Northern Kentucky over the last three seasons, the No. 17-ranked Missouri S&T's men's soccer team got the decisive play to go their way Sunday afternoon and knocked off the No. 1-ranked Norse 2-1 at the S&T Soccer Field.

Kyle Schraier (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College ), who scored the game-winning goal in Friday's win over Bellarmine, broke a one-all tie with a goal at the 68:31 mark and the Miner defense made that lead hold up as the Norse threw waves of scoring threats at it in the final minutes of the contest.

The win improved the Miners to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.  S&T and NKU are now joined in a three-way tie for first place in the GLVC along with Indianapolis, who knocked off 24th-ranked Quincy Sunday afternoon.  Sunday's victory by the Miners also snapped NKU's 17-game winning streak dating back to last season.

S&T broke on top midway through the first half when freshman Ben Emnett (St. Louis, Mo./St. Louis University HS) made a steal and scored an unassisted goal as he ripped a shot from about 15 yards away past NKU goalkeeper Sanjit Kang.  That goal marked the first time since last year's regional semifinal that the Norse trailed on the scoreboard.

The Miners made that lead hold up until halftime, but just 1:43 into the second half, Michael Holder -- who scored two game-winning goals against S&T a year ago -- redirected a pass from Nicholas Chariot past S&T goalkeeper Pat McNamee (Fenton, Mo./Vianney ) to knot the score.

The tight affair remained tied into the 69th minute of play.  Exactly one minute after entering the contest, Brian Seawright (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) and Kang converged on a ball near the top of the box that deflected off the goalkeeper and rolled right to Schraier near the penalty spot.  Schraier ripped home his fourth goal of the year to put the Miners back in front.

Moments after that goal, Holder had another golden opportunity in front of the net but fanned a shot.  NKU continued to make runs at the S&T defense over the final minutes and had another good chance with just under a minute remaining when Alex Weber's shot from the top of the box was blocked by the defense.

NKU outshot the Miners 16-14 for the game and had six corner kick opportunities to S&T's four.  McNamee made six saves in goal for the Miners.

Missouri S&T will return to action Friday when it faces Maryville University in a 1:30 p.m. game in St. Louis.
