Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners extended its school record winning streak to seven matches dominating Maryville 3-0 (25-16, 25-6, 25-13) on Friday evening in Rolla. S&T trailed only once in the match as it held the Saints (4-5, 1-5 GLVC) to a negative four hitting percentage on the evening.
The Lady Miners (9-3, 6-0 GLVC) ran out to an early seven point lead before Maryville began to chip away at the lead closing to within 19-15 on a kill by Ashlee Brockenbrough. S&T hung tough running off five straight points to set up match point at 24-15. The Saints got one point back on a service error before the Lady Miners closed the set with a kill from Hayley Wright (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) to win 25-16.
Kit Spears (Valley Center, Kan./Valley Center) and Erin Bekebrede (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) combined for nine of S&T's 15 kills in the frame. The Lady Miners hit 33.3 percent in the frame. The defense held Maryville to a zero percent hitting percentage.
The second set was all S&T as it scored the first three points and never looked back. It eventually built a 24-4 lead before the Saints scored back-to-back points. Alison Mueller (Bartelso, Ill./Mater Dei ) gave the Lady Miners the set win with her second kill of the set.
As a team S&T hit 23.3 percent in set two and finished with 13 kills. Melanie Shehorn (Flora, Ill./Flora) led the way with three kills. The Lady Miners allowed just two kills in the frame in 29 chances while forcing four errors.
Maryville scored the first point of the third set for its first lead of the night. It didn't last long as Jennifer Kegler (Ballwin, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) served five straight. The lead grew to 9-2 before the Saints responded with three straight points. S&T pushed its lead to 19-12 before giving the Saints a point back. It didn't matter as the Lady Miners won the final six points to finish off the sweep.
S&T finished the match with 40 kills on the night and was led by Shehorn and Wright with eight apiece. Jennifer Costello (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South ) dished out 29 assists while Jocelyn DeMotte (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) finished with 11 digs. The Lady Miners hit 25 percent for the match.
Maryville was led by Brockenbrough with five kills. Andi Neff had 11 assists while Jordan Dietl dug 12 balls of the floor.
S&T will be back at home on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Missouri-St. Louis at 3 p.m. Saturday's match will be between the top two teams in the GLVC West Division.
