ROLLA, Mo. -- Quincy University, the last team to beat Missouri S&T's men's soccer team on its home pitch, did it again Sunday as the Hawks made a pair of first half goals stand up in a
2-0 win over the Miners.
Jordan Roberts scored 8:21 into the contest, then Grant Ellison beat the first half buzzer with a shot that got by S&T goalkeeper
Pat McNamee (Fenton, Mo./Vianney ) for the two Quincy tallies. The Miners outshot the Hawks 8-5 in the second half and 16-11 for the game, but couldn't get a shot past Drew Duncan as they were kept off the scoreboard for the fourth consecutive game.
Roberts took a cross from Steve McAnany and hit a shot from outside the right goalpost back across the goal to put the Hawks in front.
Then, just before the first half ended, Ellison made a steal in the open field, dribbled to the top of the box only a few yards away from where Roberts took his shot and put it just inside the post with only 0.8 seconds left on the clock.
The Miners had scoring opportunities in the first half as they got three shots on goal and had five corner kick opportunities in the contest.
Trent Doerner (Spring, Texas/Klein Oak) had three shots to lead the Miners in that department.
Quincy, now 8-3-1 and 7-2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, beat the Miners 3-2 in overtime last Sept. 19 at the S&T Soccer Field. The Miners had won eight in a row at home until tying Illinois Springfield Friday evening and had a nine-game unbeaten streak at the S&T Soccer Field snapped with Sunday's setback.
S&T, 7-4-1 overall and 5-4-1 in the GLVC, will play Friday on the road against GLVC leader Indianapolis -- who knocked off Northern Kentucky 1-0 in double overtime for its ninth straight win Sunday -- in a 7:30 p.m. (Eastern time) contest.
