ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T held a huge advantage on the stat sheet in Friday night's men's soccer game, but was unable to get a shot into the net and had to settle for a
0-0 tie against Illinois Springfield in Great Lakes Valley Conference play at the S&T Soccer Field.
The Miners, who have gone 0-2-1 since beating No. 1-ranked Northern Kentucky on Sept. 25, outshot the Prairie Stars 21-5 in the game and had 12 corner kicks to five for UIS. S&T also got eight shots on goal, including a penalty kick opportunity late in the second overtime, but couldn't get anything past UIS goalkeeper Jack Turanchik.
S&T, whose record went to 7-3-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the GLVC with the scoreless draw, outshot the visitors 8-1 in the first half, 8-2 in the second half and 8-2 in the two overtimes combined. The best scoring chance came with 2:01 remaining in the second extra period when the Prairie Stars were called for a hand ball in front of the goal during a scramble after a corner kick, but Turanchik turned away
Kyle Schraier (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers College )'s attempt to keep the game tied.
Trent Doerner (Spring, Texas/Klein Oak) had five shots, three on goal, to lead the Miners, while Schraier and
Peter Haw (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West ) had four shots apiece.
