Miner swimmers complete busy weekend by winning Lindenwood Triangular

ST. PETERS, Mo. – Missouri S&T's swimming team closed out a busy weekend by coming away with a victory in a triangular meet Saturday with Lindenwood and Saint Louis University held at the Rec Plex.

The Miners, who had competed Friday at Southern Illinois, won five individual events and two relays to score 104 points in the meet, enough to outdistance Lindenwood's total of 82 and Saint Louis' final mark of 62 points.

The winning performances came from Sean Deegan (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill) in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.81 seconds, Ethan Goldfarb (Arlington, Texas/The Oakridge School) in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:57.06 and 100-yard breaststroke in 58.94 seconds, Jacob Dole (Corbin, Ky./Country Day School) in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.29 seconds, Phil Arve (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive) in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:46.71.

S&T also won both of the freestyle relays Saturday, winning the 200-yard event with the quartet of Deegan, Hayden Price (Powder Springs, Ga./Hillgrove), Matt Zieger (St. Joseph, Mo./Central) and Dole posting a time of 1:25.27, good enough to win the race by more than three seconds over Saint Louis' top team.  The 400-yard relay team of Sasha Stadnik (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley West), Price, Zieger and Luke Norris (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) posted a winning time of 3:13.54 that was good for a two-second win.

Ryan Layne (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:50.15 and 500-freestyle in 4:49.28, as did Stadnik in the 200-freestyle in 1:44.98, Dole in the 50-freestyle in 21.86 seconds, Arve in the 100-butterfly in 52.39 seconds, Deegan in the 100-yard backstroke in 52.95 seconds.

Third place showing were recorded by Matt Welsh (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) in the 1,000-free in 10:02.28, Nate Kamrath (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) in the 200-IM in 2:01.13 and 100-backstroke in 54.58 seconds.

S&T's 200-yard medley relay team of Kamrath, Andrew Simek (O'Fallon, Mo./Fort Zumwalt West), Alfredo Martinez (Mexico City, Mexico/Instituto Cumbres San Javier) and Price came in fourth place with a time of 1:41.64.

A fourth place finish also came from Alfredo Martinez (Mexico City, Mexico/Instituto Cumbres San Javier) in the 100-butterfly in 53.34 seconds, while Zieger was fifth in the 200-freestyle in 1:48.22 as was Stadnik in the 100-free in 49.19 seconds.

Missouri S&T's next competition will take place Nov. 18 and 19 at the Drury Invitational in Springfield, Mo.
