CARBONDALE, Ill. – Missouri S&T had two first place finishes and several second place showings Friday night in a dual meet at Southern Illinois University, a meet the Salukis won by a score of 118-80.
The Miners had the top two finishers in the 1,000-yard freestyle in
Phil Arve (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive), who won the event in 9:50.72 and
Matt Welsh (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette), who had a time of 9:52.35. S&T's other win Friday night came from freshman
Ethan Goldfarb (Arlington, Texas/The Oakridge School), as he won the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:08.59 to win by two-tenths of a second.
Arve also had a second place showing in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:55.19.
Jacob Dole (Corbin, Ky./Country Day School) was second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.92 seconds and 100-free in 47.63 seconds, while
Nate Kamrath (Newburgh, Ind./Castle) was second in the 200-backstroke in 1:58.81 and
Sasha Stadnik (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley West) finished there in the 500-freestyle in 4:52.78.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of
Hayden Price (Powder Springs, Ga./Hillgrove),
Sean Deegan (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill),
Luke Norris (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) and Dole came in second with a time of 3:12.09, while the 400-yard medley relay team of Kamrath, Goldfarb,
Alfredo Martinez (Mexico City, Mexico/Instituto Cumbres San Javier) and
Matt Zieger (St. Joseph, Mo./Central) finished third with a time of 3:35.95.
The Miners got a third place showing from Deegan in the 100-freestyle in 48.54 seconds,
Hayden Price (Powder Springs, Ga./Hillgrove) in the 200-backstroke in 2:01.71 and
Ryan Layne (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) in the 500-freestyle in 4:54.44 and 200-butterfly in 1:58.69, while Martinez finished fourth in the latter event in 2:00.99.
Fourth place finishes also came from Deegan in the 50-freestyle in 22.35 seconds, Goldfarb in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:11 flat, Zieger in the 100-free in 49.01, Welsh in the 500-freestyle in 4:56.46 and
Luis Nesrala (Santo Domingo, D.R./Colegio Amador) in the 200-backstroke in 2:06.76.
The Miners will compete again Saturday as they take on Lindenwood and Saint Louis University at the St. Peters Rec Plex.
