(Indianapolis, Ind.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners had its three match winning streak snapped by the 17th ranked Indianapolis Greyhounds 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-17) on Friday evening in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Lady Miners (7-4, 2-1 GLVC) got off to a slow start as the Greyhounds (8-5, 1-2 GLVC) got out to an early 4-1 lead. S&T pulled into a tie at 6-6 all, before the 'Hounds began to pull away. They used a 10-2 run midway through the set building a 23-12 advantage.
The Lady Miners struggled offensively in the frame recording six kills against five errors in 27 chances while the Greyhounds had 12 kills against six errors in 35 chances.
UIndy got out to a big lead in the second set scoring eight of the first 10 points building its biggest lead of the set at six points. S&T hung tough though eventually cutting the lead down to 21-19, but ran out of gas as the 'Hounds ran off the last four points to win the set 25-19.
Offensively the Lady Miners hit better in the second stanza finishing at 17.5 percent but it had no answer for UIndy's offense as it hit 31 percent.
The third set was tight early before the Greyhounds again used a long run to gain some distance as S&T was never able to get closer than five points the rest of the frame.
Both teams hit well in the final frame as the Lady Miners were 32.3 percent while the 'Hounds were at 48.3 percent.
For the match Indianapolis finished hitting at 31.1 percent and was led by Kristina Kerrigan with 11 kills.
S&T finished the match hitting 18.4 percent and was led by Samantha Klump (Ash Grove, Mo./Homeschooled) with 10 kills against no errors and Kit Spears (Valley Center, Kan./Valley Center) with seven kills/no errors.
The Lady Miners are back in action tomorrow as they take on Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind., beginning at 3 p.m.
