(Highland Heights, Ky.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners did something against Northern Kentucky only one other team has done this season and that was score a goal. Unfortunately for S&T it wasn't enough in a 5-1 loss to the 20th ranked Norse on Friday evening in Highland Heights, Ky.
NKU (11-1-1, 10-1 GLVC) scored the game's first goal just 3:12 into the contest by Danielle Hogue. The Norse kept the pressure but the Lady Miner (6-5, 6-5 GLVC) defense stood up to the challenge blocking four shots and forcing others that were off target.
S&T had some opportunities of its own but couldn't get one past the NKU keeper until Lauren Todd (Raytown, Mo./Raytown South) tied the game on an unassisted goal in the 40th minute. For Todd it was her second goal of the season.
The game remained tied for the final five minutes of the first half.
The Norse outshot the Lady Miners 14-6 in the opening stanza, but S&T had the edge in shots on goal 3-1.
NKU scored the game winner 7:35 into the second half on a goal by Amanda Mason from Hogue. The Norse then blew it open scoring three times in about a four minute span including two from Mason for the hat trick.
Northern Kentucky outshot the Lady Miners 7-1 in the second half.
S&T plays its final road game of the regular season on Sunday at Bellarmine beginning at 11 a.m. (CST).
