Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) – After a tough loss on Monday evening the Missouri S&T Lady Miners put together one of its best all around efforts this year with a convincing 73-51 win over Southern Indiana on Thursday evening in Rolla. The win snapped the Screaming Eagles 12-game winning streak and gave head coach Alan Eads his 100th victory at Missouri S&T.

Southern Indiana (13-3, 4-1 GLVC) scored the first basket of the contest and would hold only one other lead the remainder of the night. The Lady Miners (8-5, 3-2 GLVC) came out of the gates on fire knocking down 10 of their first 12 shots building a double digit lead just seven minutes into the contest. That lead grew to as many as 17 points in the first half as S&T got a very balanced scoring effort in the frame and headed into the break with a 43-29 advantage. Andrea Downs led the charge with 13 points in the frame on 5-of-5 shooting while Hailee Parks added nine and Katelyn Heil chipped in with seven.

After the Lady Miners hot start shooting they cooled a little bit the rest of the half finishing at 61 percent (17-of-28) and were 3-for-7 from downtown. The 43 points were the most scored in the first half all season by S&T.

Not to be outdone the Lady Miner defense did the job as well holding the second ranked scoring offense in the league to just 9-of-30 (30.0 percent) shooting. Midway through the stanza USI had made only 4 of 21 shots. The Screaming Eagles were able to hang around in large part because of their free-throw shooting making 11-of-12.

S&T started the second half strong with a 10-0 run to quickly build its lead to 24 points almost three minutes in. The Lady Miners would hold their 20+ point lead until just under the 10 minute mark. The lead didn't stay around 20 for long though as S&T scored back-to-back buckets by Julie Meyer and D'Naya Mims to push the lead back to 23 points.

The Lady Miners eventually built their lead to 71-45 on a fast-break lay-up by Jazmine Bell with 1:30 to play. S&T's shooting cooled off considerably in the second half (compared to the first) making only 41 percent of its shots but still finished the game at over 50 percent (28-for-55). It also dominated the glass outrebounding Southern Indiana by a 46-to-24 margin.

As impressive as the defensive performance was in the first half it was even better in the second as they held USI to just one field goal in the first 13:35 of the stanza. The Screaming Eagles were again to able to stay in the game because of its free throw shooting (10-for-12) in the frame. They made just three field goals for the half until the final 1:25 when they hit a three and lay-up but by the point the game was already in hand.

Coming into the game Southern Indiana was averaging just over six three-pointers made per contest and nearly 80 points per game, but were held to just 2-of-14 shooting for the night from behind the arc and were held nearly 30 points under its season average.

Downs finished the contest with 18 points to lead all scorers. She was joined in double figures by Parks with 17 and Heil with 11. Mims pulled down 10 rebounds while Parks and Bell had seven boards apiece, Downs finished with six and Meyer had five.
