1/23/2010 7:46:38 PM

Box Score (Rolla, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners offensive struggles continued in a 57-48 loss to Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday afternoon in Rolla, Mo. S&T was held to season-low 18 field goals in the contest.

The game got off to a slow start as neither team got of the gates well. UW-Parkside (17-3, 9-2 GLVC) built a 6-2 lead almost four minutes into the contest. The Lady Miners (10-9, 5-6 GLVC) answered with a 10-2 run to build a four-point advantage; it was their only lead of the afternoon.

Defensively S&T had no answer for the Rangers inside game as Brittany Beyer and Brittany Hogen scored 19 of their 27 points in the opening frame. That duo combined to shoot 6-for-11 from the floor and 7-of-8 at the charity stripe.

Julie Meyer got off to strong start for the Lady Miners scoring four points in the first six minutes before going to the bench with her second foul of the half.

S&T was able to stay close because of its defensive pressure on the perimeter players not allowing them to get into a comfort level. That pressure kept the Lady Miners within 22-20 late in the first, but their inability to score hurt them in the opening frame as they were held to just 9-for-26 (34.6 percent) from the floor.

Parkside didn't shoot the ball much better making just 36 percent (8-for-22) of its shots from the floor, but it was 10-for-11 at the foul line while S&T was only 3-of-4.

The Rangers started the second half on a 7-0 run quickly building a double digit lead just 1:40 in the stanza. The lead would remain around the double figure margin for a good portion of the rest of the game.

The Lady Miners were able to cut the lead down to 53-48 on a pair of free throws by Meyer with 1:45 left, but couldn't get any closer than that as UW-Parkside scored the final four points of the ball game to come away with the 57-48 victory.

S&T shot only 33 percent (9-for-27) in the second half while committing eight turnovers which resulted in 10 Ranger points.

Parkside on the other hand converted on 12-of-24 (50 percent) from the floor and were led again by Beyer and Hogen as they were 9-for-17 (52.9 percent) from the floor and had 20 of its 30 points.

Meyer led the Lady Miners with 13 points and was joined in double figures by Jazmine Bell with 12.

S&T will try and snap its four game losing streak on Thursday evening when it travels to St. Louis, Mo., to take on Maryville University beginning at 5:45 p.m.
