Box Score Rolla, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners ran out to an 18-0 lead to start the contest and never looked back on its way to an 85-56 win over future GLVC member Illinois-Springfield on Tuesday evening at Billy Key Court in Rolla.

Tamara McCaskill
and Katie McElrath (Owasso, Okla./Owasso) got the Lady Miners (12-10) off to their great start by scoring 13 of the team's first 18 points. S&T did the job on the defensive end as well holding the Prairie Stars (4-18) without a field goal for the games first seven minutes.

UIS actually made a game of it midway through the first half thanks in large part to the shooting of Lakeshia Moore who made three straight threes off the bench to cut S&T's lead to 10 at the 10:06 mark.

The Prairie Stars would get as close as 24-16 before the Lady Miners went on a 16-3 run over the final seven minutes of the frame to push their lead back to 19 points at the intermission.

S&T held Illinois-Springfield to just 5-of-27 (18.5 percent) shooting in the frame but didn't allow them to make a shot inside the arc holding them to 0-for-15 shooting. UIS's scoring came primarily from the behind the arc as it connected on 5-of-12 from downtown.

The Lady Miners on the other hand shot 47 percent (15-of-32) from the floor and had a 22-0 edge in points in the paint and a 17-5 edge in points off turnovers. McCaskill led all scorers in the frame with 16 points. McElrath had eight while Jenny Dorman (Pella, Iowa/Pella) had six and Jazmine Bell (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) had four.

S&T eventually built its lead to as many as 32 points in the second half and were never seriously challenged as its lead never dipped below 20 at any point.

The Lady Miners shot the ball even better in the second stanza connecting on 17-of-28 (61 percent) while holding Illinois-Springfield to just 33 percent (10-of-30) shooting.

S&T got contributions from all 14 players as everyone scored in the contest, 12 players had at least one rebound and 13 players had at least one assist. It ended up shooting over 50 percent (32-of-60) for the game and out-rebounded the Prairie Stars by a 53-to-30 margin.

McCaskill finished the night with 18 points to lead S&T. She was joined in double figures by Sheena Chadwell (Mason, Mich./Mason) with 11 and McElrath with 10. Lauren Dubbert (Madison, Mo./Madison) finished with nine points and Dorman and Brittany Percival (Hartville, Mo./Hartville ) had six apiece.

Tiffany Sproat led three UIS players in double digits with 15. Moore contributed 13 and Sheperd dropped in 10.
