Lady Miners cruise past Saints 3-0

Box Score (St. Louis, Mo.) – The Missouri S&T Lady Miners swept its way past the Maryville Saints 3-0 (25-15, 25-19 and 25-14) on Tuesday evening at Moloney Arena. With the victory the S&T set a new school record for wins with its seventh breaking last year's record of six.

The Saints (2-12, 1-6 GLVC) scored the first two points of the opening set, but after that it was all Lady Miners (7-16, 3-4 GLVC) as they hit over 40 percent in the opening frame. The S&T offense recorded 13 kills in the set and committed just one error while holding the Saints to just .152 percent. S&T led by as many as eight on a couple of different occasions midway through the stanza. Maryville cut the lead to 20-15 before the Lady Miners scored the final five points of the set getting three kills from Julie Meyer to end the set. Meyer led the offense with five kills in the frame.

The second set was all S&T as they scored six of the first seven points and never looked back on its way to the 25-19 win. The Saints got as close as 16-14 in the set before the Lady Miners pulled away building a five point lead. Samantha Klump (Ash Grove, Mo./Homeschooled) and Meyer recorded a pair of kills to end the frame. S&T recorded 15 kills in the set while hitting 27.6 percent and held the Saints to just .038 (7 kills/6 errors/26 total attacks).

The Lady Miners dominated the third set as well giving up an early point before going on a 9-3 surge to take the lead. The lead grew to as many as six before the Saints began to chip away and get it down to 18-14. S&T finished strong though by scoring the final seven points of the match taking advantage of four Maryville attack errors. Erin Bekebrede (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) had a pair of kills in the run as well. Bridget Williams (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) ended the match with the Lady Miners seventh service ace of the evening.

S&T finished the contest hitting nearly 29 percent (37k/12e/87ta) while holding the Saints to just over 6 percent (28k/22/94ta).

Meyer, Klump and Bekebrede combined for 27 kills in the match. Danielle Kracl (Omaha, Neb./Burke) and Jennifer Costello (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South ) accounted for 30 of the 33 set assists while Williams finished with a match-high 12 digs.

The Lady Miners return home for a brief three game home stand beginning Friday evening against Rockhurst University at 7 p.m., at the Bullman Multi-Purpose Building.
