Box Score Rolla, Mo. - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners were unable to overcome Drury's 12 three pointers and 26 points from Lindsay Ballweg in a
77-63 loss to the Lady Panthers on Saturday afternoon at Bullman.
It was a game of runs with each side answering each other's best shot throughout the game. The Lady Miners (4-3, 1-1 GLVC) jumped out to an early 15-8 lead nine minutes into the contest behind nine points from the guard tandem of
Kylee Grant and
Jazmine Bell, but the Lady Panthers (5-3, 1-0 GLVC) got three straight three's from Ballweg in a span of two minutes to regain the lead at 17-15.
After a Melanie Oliver jumper put Drury up four S&T got back-to-back three's from Grant and
Lydia Karlefors sparking an 8-0 of its own to go up 23-19 at the 5:47 mark. Once again the Lady Panthers answered right back with a 9-0 run of its own to retake the lead and build its largest margin of the frame at five at the 3:20 mark.
The Lady Miners came back and tied the game at 28 a little over a minute later on a jumper by
Tamara McCaskill Another Drury three, this time from Katie Pritchard, put it back up three before McCaskill answered back with a lay-up cutting the deficit to one. But Ballweg's fourth three of the half sent Drury into the locker room with a 34-30 advantage.
The Lady Panthers shot 52 percent (11-of-21) from the floor in the frame thanks to 6-of-7 shooting from downtown. S&T had 10 more shots in the half but were just 12-of-31 (39 percent) from the field and 3-of-6 at the charity stripe compared to 6-of-10 for Drury.
The Lady Panthers got a pair of three's from Ballweg and Pritchard to start the second stanza on a 8-2 run building their lead to 10 almost two minutes in. As was the case in the first half S&T rallied back eventually tying the game at 54-54 at the 8:49 mark but couldn't regain the lead as Ja'Nell Jones answered with a three sparking a 10-1 run over the next two minutes to push the lead back up to nine.
The Lady Miners cut it to 66-61 on a
Katie McElrath lay-up with 3:10 to go but that was the closest they got as Hannah Carter hit a lay-up and Ballweg hit her seventh three of the contest to extend the lead back to 10.
Drury was able to put the game away at the foul line making its final six free throws of the game for the 14 point margin.
S&T dominated in the paint in the second half outscoring the Lady Panthers by a 20-10 margin, but Drury knocked down six three's compared to just two for the Lady Miners for an 18-6 advantage behind the arc.
The Lady Panthers were able to turn 15 S&T turnovers into 25 points while the Lady Miners were able to muster 16 off 15 Drury miscues.
McElrath led four S&T players in double figures with 17 and was joined by
Lauren Dubbert with 12, McCaskill chipped in 11 and Grant finished with 10.
Ballweg finished with a game-high 26 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field, but was 7-for-9 from downtown. Oliver finished with 15 and Pritchard contributed 13.
