Box Score The Missouri S&T Lady Miners snapped a 13 match overall losing streak and a six match home losing streak with a
3-1 win (23-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-19) over Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon at the Bullman Multipurpose Building.
S&T (3-14, 1-6 GLVC) opened the match strong scoring the first six points eventually building its lead to 12-5. The Lady Miners continued to hold on to the lead until the Panthers (4-15, 0-9 GLVC) rallied to tie the set at 20-20 then scored four of the next six points setting up set point. The Lady Miners got a kill from
Hope Mooberry (Morton, Ill./Morton) to stave off the first set point but KWC's Lauren Wallace ended the set with a kill.
In the second set S&T fell behind early 6-1 before coming back to tie it up at 9-9. The Panthers then ran off four straight points for a 13-9 advantage. The Lady Miners rallied again this time running off six straight points turning a 18-14 deficit into a 20-18 lead. S&T built its lead to 23-20 and then had set point at 24-22 with a chance to square the match but KWC fought off two straight points to tie it up before the Lady Miners won the set on a block from
Samantha Klump (Ash Grove, Mo./Homeschooled) to knot it up 1-1.
After falling behind to start three S&T roared back building a five point lead midway through the set then began trading points before Kentucky Wesleyan got to within 22-21 before the Lady Miners closed out the set by scoring three of the final four points getting a kill from
Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) to end it and give S&T a 2-1 advantage.
Game four was all Lady Miners as they hit 42 percent in the set getting 15 kills against only two errors in 31 attacks. S&T led throughout the match except for a tie early on with its biggest advantage at six several times. Mooberry's kill from Tory Smiley on match point gave S&T the victory.
Meyer led all players with 14 kills while Klump had 11.
Erin Bekebrede (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs. Smiley finished with a match-high 25 assists and
Danielle Kracl (Omaha, Neb./Burke) reached double figures as well with 19.
Bridget Williams (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) finished the match with 21 digs.
