Box Score The Missouri S&T Lady Miners scored three goals in a span of 17 minutes in the second half including a pair from Brooke Ryan (Olathe, Kan./Olathe East) three minutes apart as S&T downed the visiting Washington-St. Louis Bears, 3-1 on Wednesday evening at the S&T Soccer Field. The Bears came into the contest ranked 22nd in NCAA Division III.

The first half was controlled primarily by the Bears (6-2-1) as they held the ball in the Lady Miner (5-4-1) for most of the frame. S&T had a chance though early in the period when Paige Smothers (Marion, Ill./Marion) hit a shot from 35 yards away that was deflected over the goal by the keeper almost five minutes in. WU-STL had an opportunity of its own nearly five minutes later but Stacey Luquette (St. Amant, La./St. Amant ) was able to make the save keeping the game scoreless. The best chance either side had though came with about 15 minutes remaing in the frame when the Bears crossed a ball in that Luquette came out on and made a diving stop to keep the oncoming Bear player from a possible shot at an open net.

The Lady Miners did get another opportunity late in the half when Melia Miller (Richardson, Texas/J.J. Pearce) had a ball bounce right to her at the top of the box but she wasn't able to get all of it and went right to the keeper. Washington-St. Louis finished the half outshooting S&T by a 6-to-3 margin.

S&T stormed out of the gates early in the second half getting a couple of shots at the goal that hit off the crossbar before Melissa Young (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) finally put it in on the third try at the 47:51 mark. The Lady Miners weren't done yet scoring almost 14 minutes later when Young fed a pass up to Ryan, who, took a couple of dribbles before teeing one up that went inside the near post. She scored again three minutes later off a cross through the box from Leah Williams (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) for her seventh of the season and fourth in her last two games.

The Bears turned up the pressure over the final 20 minutes getting on the scoreboard in the 75th minute off a goal by Caitlin Malone inside the far post to make it 3-1. WU-STL continued applying pressure getting six shots off in the last 11 minutes including three saves by Luquette and another shot that was blocked possibly preventing it from going into the goal.

The Bears finished the game outshooting S&T by a 15-12 edge but the Lady Miners had the edge in shots on goal 7-6. Luquette finished the game with five saves.
