Box Score Rolla, Mo. - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners dominated the stat sheet in a
5-0 win over Maryville on Sunday afternoon at the S&T soccer field. S&T finished the match with 22 shots, 10 on goal, while holding the Saints to just five shots for the match.
The Lady Miners (7-7-1) had an opportunity to score a little over two minutes into the game but
Brooke Ryan (Olathe, Kan./Olathe East)'s shot deflected off the near post before going over the end line. S&T would get on the board five minutes later when Ryan head a ball across the box to a wide open
Melia Miller (Richardson, Texas/J.J. Pearce), who put it into an open net, for her fourth tally of the year. Miller nearly got her second goal almost a minute later but her shot went just wide at the last second.
The Lady Miners added their second goal at the 12:31 mark when Ryan took a cross from Miller, made a couple of defenders miss before putting it in from the top of the box. The Saints (7-9-1) best chance to score came off a corner kick in the 30th minute when it appeared they had scored but it was waved off because of offsides.
S&T finished the half with nine shots to just three for the Saints with two shots on goal, both going in compared to one for Maryville.
The Lady Miners added to their lead in the 60th minute on a pass from
Leah Williams (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) that was headed by
Melissa Young (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias) across the box to
Rachel Shen (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) who tapped it in for her first goal of the year. S&T continued its dominance getting its final two goals in the last 10 minutes with
Hillary Griffith (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) netting her first two goals of the season. She scored her first one in the 81st minute heading one over the keeper off passes from Sabrinna Drennan and
Joanna Kovarik (Gladstone, Mo./North Kansas City) before adding another almost two minutes later when she tipped in off a pass from Williams.
Stacey Luquette (St. Amant, La./St. Amant ) and
Catherine Swift (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) combined for the team's second shutout of the season with Luquette making the lone save.
