Box Score Springfield, Mo. - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners battled to a
1-1 draw in double overtime at Drury University on Friday evening in Springfield, Mo. With the tie and Bellarmine's win over Indianapolis, S&T was knocked out of contention for the eighth and final playoff spot in the GLVC Tournament.
The Lady Miners (7-7-2, 3-6-2 GLVC) survived an opening flurry of shots from Drury (8-6-3, 7-3-2 GLVC) in the game's first 10 minutes before turning the tables and began to take control the rest of the frame. S&T put a couple of shots on goal in the 15th and 31st minutes but were unable to sneak one past the keeper until
Hillary Griffith (South Bend, Ind./John Adams) knocked home a deflection from three yards out in the 39th minute, her third of the season, for the game's first goal. The Lady Miners had another opportunity two minutes before the break but
Rachel Wille (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville)'s shot sailed wide.
Each side finished the stanza with five shots but S&T put three on goal compared to zero for the Panthers.
Leah Williams (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) tried to add on to the lead a little over a minute into the second half but was turned away by the keeper. Drury began to pick up the pace trying to get the equalizer and were successful scoring an unassisted goal by Nicole Williams in the 61st minute from the center of the box three yards away.
S&T tried to regain the lead in the 70th minute but again L. Williams was turned away by the keeper. The Panthers had the opportunity to take the lead 0:19 later but
Kelsey Kurilla (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) made one of her five saves in the frame to keep the score deadlocked at 1-1.
Kurilla came up huge the entire second half especially down the stretch for the Lady Miners making a pair of saves in the final two and a half minutes to keep the score tied and force the overtime period.
Drury finished the frame outshooting S&T by a 10-4 margin and 6-2 in shots on goal.
In the first overtime frame Griffith tried to send the Lady Miners home a winner in the 92nd minute but her shot was turned away. Kurilla kept the game tied by stopping a shot in the 96th minute forcing the second overtime.
The Panthers got off the only shot in the second overtime period with Kurilla making yet another save to end the game in a draw.
Drury finished the match outshooting the Lady Miners 19-10 and 8-6 in shots on goal. Kurilla stopped seven of the eight shots she faced while Jessie Sanderson had five saves for the Panthers.
L. Williams led the S&T offense with four shots, three on goal whiel Griffith had two shots both on net.
