Lady Miners swept by Findlay at Asics GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament

Box Score Indianapolis, Ind. - The Missouri S&T Lady Miners were swept by Findlay, 3-0 (24-26, 17-25, 17-25) in its final game at the Asics GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis, Ind.

Despite hitting a season-high .231 percent the Lady Miners (6-20) were unable to overcome the hot hitting Oilers (10-15), who hit .321 percent for the match and had 39 kills compared to 34 for S&T.

The Lady Miners hit the ball well in the first set recording 15 kills against three errors in 29 total attacks (.414 percent). They trailed 24-20 late in the set but scored four straight points to tie it on a Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) kill but Findlay scored the final two points to win the game.

With the score tied at 10-10 in the second game, UF went on a 9-2 run to take control of the set but S&T battled back getting to as close as 23-17 before the Oilers took advantage of an attack error and then got a service ace to win the set and take the 2-0 lead.

The Lady Miners led midway through the third set but another Oiler run turned a 10-7 deficit into a 14-11 lead. S&T stayed within three points until a kill by UF's Erin Thomasson gave it a 20-16 advantage and then it went on to score five of the final six points to win the match.

Erin Bekebrede (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) was the leading hitter for S&T recording 10 kills against two errors in 19 chances (.421) percent. Danielle Kracl (Omaha, Neb./Burke) and Tory Smiley each recorded double figure totals in set assists with 13 and 10 respectively while Bridget Williams (Topeka, Kan./Hayden) finished with six digs.
