ROLLA, Mo. -- Missouri S&T has announced the hiring of Ryan Hunt as the Assistant Track & Field Coach for the Miners.
"I am incredibly excited to add Ryan to our coaching staff," said Head Track & Field Coach Nikki Segrest. "When looking for the right fit, it was vital to find someone who aligns with our culture, and Ryan embodies our core values perfectly. His unique ability to connect with athletes on and off the track, combined with his passion for the sport, will be a tremendous asset to our future. He brings a proven track record of development that will immediately elevate our program and help our athletes reach their full potential."
Hunt comes to Missouri S&T after coaching at Hugh M. Cummings High School and the Durham Striders Track Club, where he worked under Hall of Fame coach Donnie Davis. Serving as the multi-events coach, Hunt coached the throws, jumps, and hurdles, helping lead the program to both the indoor and outdoor North Carolina girls' state championships while finishing the season ranked No. 1 in the state across all classifications in both seasons.
During the indoor state championships, Hunt coached athletes to sweeps of the long jump, triple jump, and hurdles while also producing the state champion in the high jump. His athletes followed that performance with another dominant showing during the outdoor season, sweeping the hurdles and triple jump while finishing first, second, and fourth in the long jump at the state championships.
Individually, Hunt coached U20 National Champion and North Carolina all-time triple jump record holder D'Anna Cotton, who also ranks No. 3 in state history in the outdoor long jump. He also coached USATF Region 3 Decathlon Champion Carlos Green, two-time NCISAA state champion long sprinter Aiden Garrett, and two-time Freshman All-American shot putter Michelle Pringley.
Throughout his coaching career, Hunt has mentored multiple national qualifiers and All-Americans across the hurdles, jumps, throws, and multi-events.
"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join Missouri S&T and become a part of such a respected program," said Hunt. "I want to thank Coach Nikki and the university for believing in me. I'm excited to get to work, build relationships with our student-athletes, and do everything I can to help promote a culture of excellence."
