INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Missouri S&T earned a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors as the conference announced its 2025-26 Winter and Spring Scholar-Athletes on Friday. Senior thrower Owen Fraser (Kirksville, MO/Kirksville) and junior men's volleyball setter Grant Edmonds (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison) were recognized for their outstanding achievements both in competition and in the classroom.
The Miners were one of just two GLVC institutions to produce multiple Scholar-Athletes of the Year, finishing among only five schools with at least two honorees. A total of 19 student-athletes representing 18 conference-sponsored winter and spring sports were selected.
Fraser earned the distinction for the third consecutive year after putting together one of the finest indoor track and field seasons in program history. He captured the NCAA Division II national championship in the shot put while earning First Team All-America honors in both the shot put and weight throw. Fraser won 12 events during the indoor season, including the shot put in nine of his 10 competitions, and recorded a personal-best throw of 19.37 meters in the shot put while setting a school record in the weight throw at 20.98 meters.
A mechanical engineering major, Fraser maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA and was also honored with the NCAA Division II Elite Scholar-Athlete Award. He was also named CSC Academic All-District and has been selected to advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
Edmonds received the men's volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor following a record-breaking junior campaign. The First Team All-GLVC setter led the conference with 10.66 assists per set, ranking third nationally and first among all NCAA Division II players. He was selected GLVC Setter of the Week seven times while helping Missouri S&T capture the inaugural GLVC Men's Volleyball Tournament championship and finish the season with a 19-6 record.
The aerospace engineering major established a new program single-season record with 970 assists while also setting school records for assists in three-, four-, and five-set matches. Edmonds holds a 3.69 cumulative GPA and has also earned CSC Academic All-District honors while being nominated for CSC Academic All-America.
The GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award recognizes one student-athlete from each conference-sponsored sport based on excellence in athletic performance and academic achievement. Nominees must own at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA and are selected through a vote of the conference's Faculty Athletics Representatives.
