JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Missouri S&T Baseball picked up their 30th win of the season today, improving to 30-15 after an 11-5 win over the Lincoln Blue Tigers. The Miners have now won 30 or more games in back-to-back season, a feat that has only been achieved once before in program history.
The Blue Tigers took the lead just three at bats into the first inning, hitting a single and a home run to go up 2-0. The added another single in the bottom of the second but would leave the runner stranded. After two hitless innings, a double by
Keaton Scott (Hannibal, MO/Hannibal) in the third sparked the Miner offense. S&T would get on the board in the following inning, with
Aiden Cizek (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette) reaching home on a balk after a single by
Will Beckham (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home).
Still trailing 2-1 entering the top of the fifth, the Miners put together their biggest inning of the game. A single by
Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) brought
Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) home early in the inning, tying the contest at 2-2. Lincoln's starting pitcher Canon Feist walked four S&T batters in the inning and hit another, bringing three more runs home for the Miners. After a pitching change by the Blue Tigers,
Nick Hooper (Grain Valley, MO/Grain Valley) hit an RBI fielder's choice to bring
Denton Damgaard (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) home, extending S&T's lead to 6-2.
Lincoln immediately responded to the Miners' success in the fifth, hitting back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the inning before scoring three on a bases clearing double. However, the Miners padded their lead in the top of the sixth, taking advantage of Lincoln's miscues and a
Nick Krodinger (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) RBI single to move ahead 10-5.
Zander Street (Festus, MO/St. Pius X) came in to pitch for S&T in the fifth and would give up just two hits the rest of the game while striking out four. The Miners added one more run before the game concluded, scoring on another RBI single by Hooper.
Beckham and Hooper both recorded two RBIs while six different Miners had hits in the contest. Street earned the win for his 4.1 innings of work, improving his season record to 3-1.
