JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Missouri S&T softball delivered a strong all-around performance on the road Friday, sweeping Lincoln in a doubleheader with 4-3 and 9-5 victories. The Miners continue to build momentum in GLVC play following the sweep moving to 21-13 overall and 8-4 in GLVC play.
Game 1 – Missouri S&T 4, Lincoln 3
Missouri S&T used timely hitting and aggressive base running to secure a 4-3 win in the opener.
After Lincoln struck first in the opening inning, Taylor Nelson (Hailey, ID/Phillips Exeter Academy) quickly responded with an RBI double to tie up the game. The Miners took control in the third when
Molly Fitzgerald (Crystal Lake, IL/Marian Central Catholic) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and added insurance in the fourth on a
two-run home run by Tori Thompson (Chandler, AZ/Basha).
AJ Agers (DeSoto, MO/St. Pius X) was solid in the circle, tossing a complete game, allowing three runs on seven hits while limiting damage and keeping the Miners in control throughout.
Offensively, Thompson led the way with two RBI on a 2-for-3 performance, while Kaylee LaChappell
also recorded two hits. The Miners were aggressive on the base paths, with Claire Lopez (Olathe, KS/Olathe Northwest) swiping three bases as S&T totaled four steals in the game.
Game 2 – Missouri S&T 9, Lincoln 5
The Miners' offense exploded in game two, powering S&T to a 9-5 victory to complete the sweep.
After AJ Agers (DeSoto, MO/St. Pius X) opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second, Missouri S&T broke the game open in the third inning with six runs on five hits. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run from Taylor Nelson (Hailey, ID/Phillips Exeter Academy), who added another solo shot in the fourth to finish with two home runs and three RBI's
on the day.
S&T tallied 12 hits in the game, with Nelson and Kaylee LaChappell leading the way with three and two hits, while multiple Miners contributed to the offensive surge. The team also remained aggressive on the bases, stealing four bags.
In the circle, Mia Miller (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) got the start before AJ Agers (DeSoto, MO/St. Pius X) delivered two scoreless innings in relief, helping secure the win. The Miners also played clean defense, finishing the game
without committing an error.
What's Next
Missouri S&T returns to GLVC action on the road next weekend, traveling to UIndy on Saturday, April 11, and Lewis on Sunday, April 12. Both doubleheaders are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
