Softball Drops Pair of One-Run Games at No. 7 UIndy; Miller Hits 200 Career Strikeouts

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Missouri S&T softball battled in two tightly contested games but came up just short in both, falling 4-3 in extra innings and 2-1 to No. 7 UIndy in a GLVC doubleheader on Saturday. The Miners move to 21-15 overall and 8-6 in GLVC play.

Game 1 – UIndy 4, Missouri S&T 3 (8 Innings)
Missouri S&T pushed the nationally ranked Greyhounds to extra innings, but UIndy walked it off in the bottom of the eighth to take game one, 4-3.

The Greyhounds struck first in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly, but the Miners responded in the fifth. Jordyn Davis (Broken Arrow, OK/Broken Arrow) delivered an RBI double to center field to tie the game at 1-1. UIndy regained the lead in the sixth capitalizing on a Miner error, but S&T answered in the seventh.

Morgan Williams came through with a clutch two-run home run to center field in the top of the seventh, giving the Miners a 3-2 advantage. However, UIndy tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double to force extras.

In the eighth, the Miners were unable to push across a run, and the Greyhounds capitalized in their final at-bat with a walk-off single to secure the win.

Williams led Missouri S&T offensively with two RBI, while Tori Thompson (Chandler, AZ/Basha)Kaylee LaChappell (Oswego, IL/Oswego)Trista Grobe (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto), Davis, Taylor Nelson (Hailey, ID/Phillips Exeter Academy), and Williams each recorded a hit.

In the circle, AJ Agers (DeSoto, MO/St. Pius X) delivered a strong outing, going 7.1 innings while allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts.

Game 2 – UIndy 2, Missouri S&T 1
Game two proved to be another pitcher's duel, with the Miners again falling on a late play as UIndy secured a 2-1 victory in the bottom of the seventh.

The Greyhounds opened the scoring in the fourth with an RBI double, but Missouri S&T responded in the fifth, taking advantage of a UIndy error to even the score at 1-1.

Both teams were held in check down the stretch until the bottom of the seventh, when UIndy drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home the winning run.

LaChappell led the Miners at the plate with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, while Williams added two hits and Claire Lopez (Olathe, KS/Olathe Northwest) drove in S&T's lone run.

Miller was strong in the circle, tossing 6.1 innings while allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits with six strikeouts.
