PERU, Ind. – Missouri S&T men's golf put together a dominant showing across three rounds of stroke play at the GLVC Championships, finishing atop the leaderboard to secure the No. 1 seed heading into match play.
After opening round one and most of round two on Wednesday, play was halted due to a lightning delay before the Miners returned Thursday to complete round two and all of round three. Missouri S&T separated itself from the field, finishing at -6, well ahead of second-place UMSL (+1). The Miners opened the tournament shooting even in round one before surging in round two with a tournament-best -8, followed by a +2 finish in round three to close out stroke play. Drury (+6) and UIndy (+23) rounded out the top four teams advancing to match play.
The Miners consistency and firepower were on full display throughout stroke play, highlighted by a remarkable showing on key holes. In round one, hole 10 set the tone as Cole Komyati,
Chayton Jordan (Rolla, MO/Rolla), and
Andy Su (Poole, England/Poole) each recorded eagles, while
Rizq Adam Rohizam (Selangor, Malaysia/Robert Louis Stevenson) and
Li Kasule (Stockholm, Sweden/Upplands-Brogymnasiet) added birdies. On hole 16, all six Miners carded birdies. Missouri S&T continued its aggressive play in round two, tallying three more eagles from Komyati, Jordan, and Su, with Rohizam and Kasule again adding birdies on hole two, bringing the two-day total to six eagles. The Miners added two more eagles in round three, with Rohizam on hole six and Jordan on hole 15.
Individually, Komyati led the way for Missouri S&T, finishing third overall at -2 after holding the top spot through much of rounds one and two. Kasule followed closely in fourth at even par, while Jordan and Rohizam tied for sixth at +2.
Isaac To (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia/Real International School) placed 20th at +10, with
Andy Su (Poole, England/Poole) just behind in 23rd at +11. Komyati and Kasule each earned All-Tournament Team honors with their top-five finishes.
