ROLLA, Mo. -- Missouri S&T Baseball holds a three-game advantage over the rest of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) with two series left in the regular season. They host Maryville University over the weekend for their final home series of the year.
About the Miners
Missouri S&T is receiving votes in all three major baseball polls, dropping slightly in two fo them after a series split against Lewis last week. Despite the split, the Miners still maintain a three-game advantage over the rest of the conference with eight games remaining in the regular season and have nine more wins than Lewis who currently sits outside the bubble for the GLVC tournament at #9 in the standings.
The Miners are hitting .320, ranking them fourth in the GLVC.
Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy),
Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville), and
Denton Damgaard (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) all rank in the top 30 of the conference for individual batting average, hitting .394, .361, and .360.
Dylan Bates (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) continues to pace the team in individual ERA with a 4.43 ERA, leading the team to 6.48 ERA.
About the Saints
The Saints dropped in the GLVC standings this week, falling after losing three out of four to Illinois Springfield. They are one of four teams tied for second in the GLVC, holding a 17-7 record against conference opponents.
Maryville's greatest strength has been their pitching this season, ranking fourth in the GLVC for ERA with a 6.12. They are holding opposing teams to a conference-low batting average of .275 this year. Brayden Rubel leads the team in ERA, recording a 4.47 that ranks him sixth in the conference. Meanwhile, the offense only has one batter hitting above .350, with Jace Burton leading the team with a .352 batting average.
