Baseball Looks to Extend GLVC Win Streak During Trip to Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.  --  Missouri S&T Baseball heads to Illinois to face the Lewis Flyers this week. They have won their last 18 conference games, entering the series with an 18-2 record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). The Miners were ranked #27 in the American Baseball Coaches Association poll and were #24 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll.

About the Miners
The Miners have won 19 of their last 20 and are on an 18-game win streak against GLVC opponents. They hold a two-game lead over Maryville in the conference standings with twelve GLVC games remaining in the regular season.

S&T is fourth in the conference in batting average with a .323 mark. Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) leads the team with a .391 batting average and 45 runs scored, ranking seventh in the conference in the latter. Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) has been another key contributor to the Miners' offense, leading the team and ranking fourth in the GLVC for runs batted in with 48 this year.

The Missouri S&T pitching staff ranks second in the conference for earned run average, holding a 5.86 ERA through 36 games. Dylan Bates (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) has the best individual ERA on the team, recording a 4.06 and earning seven wins. He also leads the team in strikeouts with 37. From the bullpen, Ethan Payne (Bentonville, AR/Bentonville) leads the relief staff in ERA with a 1.93, earning four saves and one win in thirteen appearances.
 
About the Flyers
Lewis is fighting for a spot in the GLVC tournament as the regular season nears the home stretch. After winning six in a row, the Flyers dropped three out of four games in their series against Maryville, making them 9-9 in-conference and ninth in the GLVC standings.

They are hitting .306 this year, led by sophomore Chris Daugherty who is hitting .357. Daugherty is tied with teammate Alex Chaltin for the team lead in hits with 45 apiece, while Jimmy Spellman leads the team in RBIs with 31.

The Flyers' 6.23 ERA is the sixth best in the conference, with Ben Catrambone leading the starters in ERA with a 2.55 in 13 appearances. Lewis has been solid while in the field, ranking 9th in Division II with a .977 fielding percentage.
