Baseball Ranked #27 in ABCA; Hosting #8 Pitt State Tomorrow

ROLLA, Mo.  --  Missouri S&T Baseball's win streak has grown to 19 over the last month, most recently sweeping Illinois Springfield who was receiving votes in national polls and was tied for the #1 spot in the conference entering the series. The Miners have garnered national attention, being ranked #27 in the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) poll and receiving votes in the D2 Baseball poll.
 
About the Miners

The Miners 19-game win streak is the second longest active streak in Division II, with Colorado Mesa just a game ahead with a 20-game streak. The team is 25-10 overall and were ranked fifth in the region last week, with the next set of rankings by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) set to be released tomorrow.

S&T ranks 4th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and 38th in Division II for batting average, hitting .324. They hit .358 over the course of the win streak, led by Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) who has a .457 average in those 19 games. He also leads the team in RBIs (31), hits (32), and home runs in that stretch.

Dylan Bates (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) and Logan Slinkard (Affton, MO/Lutheran South) have combined for a 9-0 record during the Miners' win streak, with Bates leading the team in strikeouts with 29 and ranking fourth in the GLVC for ERA with a 4.06. Ethan Payne (Bentonville, AR/Bentonville) and Dylan Wipf (Oak Park, IL/River Forest) have put in solid work as relief pitchers, with Payne recording a 0.00 ERA and 3 saves in six appearances while Wipf has struck out 12 in nine innings of work.
 
About the Gorillas
The Pitt State Gorillas are 31-8 this year after starting their season with a 17-game win streak. They lead Division II in scoring, averaging 11.7 runs per game.

The Gorillas are third in the nation for batting average, hitting at .358. Senior infielder Dagen Brewer leads the team in that metric, ranking 10th in Division II with a .446 batting average. Brewer also leads the team and Division II in slugging percentage, hitting .993 this year. Pitt State's pitching has been solid, recording a team ERA of 4.69 that is 33rd in the country.
 
What's Next
The Miners will travel to Romeoville for a series against the Lewis Flyers that starts on Friday.
