QUINCY, Ill. -- Missouri S&T Men's Volleyball improved to 10-2 in conference today, defeating the Quincy Hawks in four sets to move into a tie for second place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) standings. Edmonds broke a program record for the second match in a row, setting a new standard for assists in a four-set match with 45. Additionally, the Miners now move into a tie for the fifth-longest win streak by any Miner program in school history.
After trading points early in set one, the Miners went ahead 9-6 on a three-point run that featured an ace by Caleb Rohlwing (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) along with a double block by Aaron Sallade (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) and Tyler Johnwick (Lombard, IL/Glenbard East). Quincy immediately answered with three points of their own, tying the set at 9-all. S&T steadily rebuilt the lead to three, leading 22-19 late in the set. The Hawks recorded four kills in the final seven points of the set, creating a 6-1 run to take the first frame 25-23.
S&T went on a 5-2 run that extended to an 8-5 lead to start the second set, getting an ace from Grant Edmonds (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison) and a trio of blocks in that stretch. The Hawks managed to cut the deficit to one at 8-7, leading to a back-and-forth exchange for the next several rallies. Zachary Carff (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) led a 4-0 run that put the Miners ahead 18-13, contributing a block and a kill. The Miners closed the set on a 6-1 run, getting two aces from Johnwick and a third from Edmonds to tie the match at one set apiece.
A solo block by Nate Meyer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) capped an early 3-0 run that put S&T ahead 12-6 in the third frame. Kills by Sallade, Carff, Meyer, and Johnwick helped S&T extend the lead to eight at 19-11, eventually closing the set on a 4-1 run to take the frame 25-15. The Miners hit .548 in the set, recording 18 kills and just one error.
The Miners and Hawks traded scoring runs early, with two kills from Sallade putting the Miners up 6-4. After Quincy tied the score at 6-6, the Miners put together a 6-1 response to pull ahead 12-7. The Hawks countered with a 5-1 run, cutting the deficit to one at 13-12. Blocks from Rohlwing, Carff, and Johnwick helped the Miners rebuild a cushion, taking a 22-17 advantage that allowed them to win the set and the match on a kill from Meyer at 25-20.
Meyer's 18 kills led the team, his most in a four-setter since the Dominican match back in January. He hit .378 against the Hawks, helping the team finish at .315 for the match. The Miners' 12 blocks are a season high for a four-set match. Rohlwing led the Miner defense at the net, recording five block assists and one solo block.

The Miners have a home/away split series with Maryville next week, hosting the Saints on Wednesday, April 15th at 6pm then traveling to St. Louis for a road match on Saturday, April 18th at 2pm.
