ROLLA, MO -- Missouri S&T Baseball will be hosting 8th-ranked Grand Valley State this weekend for a four-game series. Due to potential weather, the format has been changed to one game at 2pm on Friday, one at 2pm on Saturday, and an 11am doubleheader on Sunday.
About the Miners
S&T is 6-3 entering the final non-conference series this season, coming off a 1-2 performance at the Drury Invitational last weekend. The Miners remain top three in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) for both batting average (.328) and earned run average (5.5).
The team has hit 6 triples this season for an average of 0.67 per game that ranks 7th in the nation.
Scott Thompson (Greeley, CO/University) and
Will Beckham (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home) have each recorded two triples this year, ranking 5th and 8th in Division II for triples per game.
Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) and
Denton Damgaard (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) rank first and third in the conference for batting average, with Smith ranking 15th in Division II with a .500 average. Smith also ranks 6th in hits per game, averaging 2.25.
About the Lakers
Grand Valley State is one of the best hitting teams in Division II, recording a team batting average of .351. The Lakers also boast the second-best pitching squad in DII this season, recording a 2.15 earned run average.
Evan Morrison and Jovan Gill lead the Lakers in batting, recording .563 and .436 averages, respectively. Morrison's 2.45 hits per game are the second-most in Division II, while his on base percentage is 15th nationally at .618.
Duncan McLaughlin headlines the GVSU pitchers, ranking 24th in DII for earned run average (0.82). He also ranks 18th in WHIP, recording a 0.73 mark in three appearances.
What's Next
Following this weekend's games, S&T will head to Harding for a midweek game on the Tuesday and then welcome Quincy to Rolla for the first GLVC series of the season. Game one of Saturday's doubleheader against Quincy will be preceded by a special ceremony recognizing the Miners for their 2025 GLVC Championship and presenting the team with their championship rings.
