GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Missouri S&T's Baseball team is receiving votes in the newest edition of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) poll. It is the first time since 2012 that the Miners have been named in the ABCA poll.
The Miners are riding a program-record 11-game win streak, with sweeps of Rockhurst and Truman State in the last two weeks. They have not lost a game since March 13th. The streak is the second-longest active streak in Division II, with the team just one game behind Colorado Mesa and Findlay who have won twelve in a row.
Denton Damgaard (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) and
Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) are leading the Miners' offensive onslaught that has played a significant role in the Miners' recent success, with the two seniors combining for 35 RBIs in the last eleven contests. Meyer, along with
Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) have also contributed heavily to the team ranking 17th in the nation for stolen bases per game with an average of 2.78.
Two of S&T's starting pitchers are averaging below a 1.00 earned run average over the course of the streak, with
Andrew Hedgecorth (Smithville, MO/Smithville) holding a 0.84 ERA and
Dylan Bates (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) recording a 0.95. Additionally, Bates has recorded 20 strikeouts in his last three appearances, two of which were complete games.
