BOLIVAR, Mo. -- Missouri S&T Men's Volleyball picked up their fourth win in a row this Friday night, defeating Southwest Baptist 25-19, 25-21, 25-16. The Miners have now won ten consecutive sets between their last four matches.
A kill by
Zachary Carff (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) paired with a double block from
Aaron Sallade (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) and
Caleb Rohlwing (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) gave the Miners an early lead in set one at 5-3.
Tyler Johnwick (Lombard, IL/Glenbard East) and
Nate Meyer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) teamed up for three kills and a block later, extending the Miners' lead to 11-7 on a 4-1 run. S&T kept the pressure on from there, building a six-point lead at 19-13 after a 5-1 run that they would maintain through the end of the set.
The Miners built a small lead early again in the second set, but this time Southwest Baptist had an answer, putting together a 4-1 run that gave them the lead at 10-9. Meyer and Sallade contributed kills to a Miner run that put S&T back in front 16-13, but SBU answered again, tying the set at 19-all. A couple of kills from Carff aided a 6-2 S&T run to close the set, giving the Miners the second frame 25-21.
A block from Meyer and a kill by Rohlwing fueled a 4-0 run in the opening points of set three, giving the Miners a two-point lead. A kill from Johnwick capped another 4-0 run later, giving the team a 12-7 advantage over SBU. Sallade and Rohlwing both recorded service aces in a 7-2 scoring run that also featured kills from Carff, Meyer, and Rohlwing. Up 23-16, the Miners closed the match in emphatic fashion, getting back-to-back double blocks to claim their fourth win in a row.
S&T hit .414 as a team in the match, including a .524 percentage in the third set. Johnwick, Meyer, and Carff were all the top contributors to the team's attacking efficiency, hitting .667, .500, and .429, respectively. Meyer led the team in kills and points with 11 and 13, adding 6 digs and 3 blocks.
Grant Edmonds (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison) averaged above 10 assists per set again, totaling 34, while
Bartosz Chmielewski (Aurora, IL/Metea Valley) recorded double digit digs for the seventh time this season with ten.
