Miners Take Down Bearcats in Three, Extend Streak to 13 Straight Sets Won

BOLIVAR, Mo.  --  Missouri S&T Men's Volleyball has now won their last five matches, taking thirteen sets in a row across though five victories.
 
An ace by Zachary Carff (O'Fallon, Mo./St. Dominic) along with a kill Nate Meyer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) helped the Miners to a 5-1 lead in the opening set. A solo block by Grant Edmonds (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison) and a kill by Rohlwing started another S&T run that pushed their lead to 15-6. A triple block by Rohlwing, Meyer, and Aaron Sallade (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) further energized the Miners later in the set as they built a ten-point lead. The Miners closed the frame on a three-point run, with Meyer picking up his fifth kill of the set.
 
After trading points in the early second the Miners built a small lead on a 3-0 run that featured kills by Sallade and Rohlwing. Sallade recorded three kills in a row later in the set, sparking a six-point S&T run that put them in front 17-10. The Bearcats began to work their way back into the set, cutting the deficit to four at 22-18. However, a pair of kills by Meyer and another by Carff gave the Miners set two 25-19, ending the frame on a 3-1 run.
 
Set three was a tight one early, but the Miners built a 9-5 lead after a five-point stretch where Rohlwing, Carff, and Sallade all put down kills. The Bearcats responded, nearly drawing event at 11-10 before Rohlwing paired two kills with a solo block in response, creating a 3-0 run that put S&T back in front by four. The Miners maintained their advantage late, ending the match on a 7-2 run while Carff contributed an ace and Aris Maurukas (Lisle, IL/Benet Academy) added a pair of kills.
 
Sallade led the Miners in kills, hitting .565 with 13 kills and 0 errors. The team hit .449, recording 47 kills to just 7 errors. The team's 43 assists are the most in a three-setter this year, with Edmonds leading the team in that category with 36.
 
What's Next
The Miners are back in Gibson next weekend, with a GLVC pair against Thomas More on Friday at 6pm and Saturday at 2pm.
