3/21/2026 9:15:00 PM

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  —  Missouri S&T put together a complete day on the diamond Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader from Truman State behind explosive offense in game one and a late surge in game two.

Missouri S&T 11, Truman State 1
The Miners wasted no time setting the tone in game one, pushing across two runs in the opening inning thanks to singles by Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) and Denton Damgaard (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) before breaking the game wide open with a seven-run second. Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) led off the big inning with a single, the first of six for the Miners in the top of the second. Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy), Will Beckham (Mountain Home, AR/Mountain Home), Damgaard, and Baugus hit RBI singles in the inning, fueling a seven-run inning for the Miners as S&T pulled ahead 9-0.

Starting pitcher Andrew Hedgecorth (Smithville, MO/Smithville) worked through five scoreless innings, giving up just three hits and striking out five in that stretch. The Miners added to their lead in the top of the fifth, getting singles from Smith, Meyer, and Damgaard to extend the advantage to 11-0.

The Bulldogs finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth, getting three singles in a row to score their first and only run of the day. They were able to get a runner in scoring position in the final inning as well, but Hedgecorth shut the door on a groundout to give S&T the 11-1 win.

Missouri S&T 7, Truman State 1
A Jackson Evans (Overland Park, KS/Olathe North) double helped the Miners score in the first inning again, allowing Smith to come home on a sacrifice fly by Beckham in the next at bat. The Miners added another run in the top of the third, getting a trio of singles in the inning along with an RBI for Damgaard.

The Miners held their 2-0 advantage until the sixth inning, when the Miners added three more runs. Evans and Meyer picked up RBI singles in the inning along with an RBI double by Beckham, while Keaton Scott (Hannibal, MO/Hannibal) and Scott Thompson (Greeley, CO/University) aided the effort with stolen bases.

S&T added another pair of runs in the final inning, with Scott contribution a single and Thompson hitting a double in the inning to make it a 7-0 lead. Logan Slinkard (Affton, MO/Lutheran South) went a full 7 innings, allowing just one run while striking out 4 and giving up only 6 hits.

Meyer went 5-for-7 at the plate on the day, scoring 4 runs along with 2 RBIs. Baugus and Damgaard both recorded 3 hits and 3 RBIs in game one, with the latter adding a fourth RBI in game two.
