Meyer Crushes Fourth Home Run of the Season as Miners Drop DH vs Quincy

ROLLA, MO  —  The Missouri S&T Miners dropped their first two Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) games of the season on Friday, falling to the Quincy Hawks 13-5 and 11-1.

Game 1: Quincy 13, Missouri S&T 5
Missouri S&T showed early patience at the plate in game one, drawing walks and creating traffic in the first few innings. After Quincy built a 4–0 lead in the third, the Miners found a spark in the fourth. After Keaton Scott (Hannibal, MO/Hannibal) singled to load the bases, Drew Baugus (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) reached on an error that allowed Cory Chostner (Columbia, MO/Hickman) to score, and Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) followed by reaching on another Quincy miscue to bring Will Muench (Wentzville, MO/Timberland) home and cut the deficit to 5–2.

The Miners continued to chip away in the sixth. Baugus opened the frame with a single, Smith worked a walk, and Garrett Meyer (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) moved the runners with a bunt. Denton Damgaard (Colorado Springs, CO/Cheyenne Mountain HS) then lined a single up the middle to score Smith, trimming the margin to three runs at 6–3.

Missouri S&T mounted another push late in the game. In the eighth inning, Meyer launched a home run to left-center field to lead off the frame before Muench added an RBI single later in the inning to bring make it 10-5.

Several Miners produced multi-hit efforts in the opener, including Muench and Keaton Scott (Hannibal, MO/Hannibal) with two hits each, while Damgaard drove in a run and Meyer contributed both a homer and an RBI.

Game 2: Quincy 11, Missouri S&T 1
In the second game of the day, Quincy benefited from an S&T error that prolonged the first inning, allowing four to score unearned in the opening frame.

Missouri S&T broke through in the sixth inning when Landen Roberts (St. Clair, MO/St. Clair) reached on a bunt single and Bricen Smith (Perry, GA/Mount de Sales Academy) followed with another bunt hit to place two runners on. After a flyout advanced both runners, Meyer delivered a sacrifice fly to center field that brought Roberts home to put the Miners on the board.

Andrew Hedgecorth (Smithville, MO/Smithville) struck out four in 5.1 innings pitched, while Smith, Meyer, Chostner, and Roberts all recorded hits.

What's Next
Missouri S&T now looks to regroup as they continue the series this weekend with another doubleheader vs Quincy on Saturday at 12:15pm. The doubleheader will be preceded by a special ceremony recognizing the team for their 2025 GLVC Tournament championship, with that event set to begin at 11:45am.
