ROLLA, MO -- In a makeup game from January, the Miners will be hosting Illinois Springfield on Tuesday night at 7:30pm. The Miners and Prairie Stars are two of the top teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) standings, with UIS third at 11-3 and S&T fourth with a 10-3 conference record.
About the Miners
Missouri S&T has won their last three games by a 19-point average margin of victory, defeating Lewis, Upper Iowa, and Quincy in that stretch. They are 16-4 overall and 10-3 in the GLVC, sitting fourth in conference standings and a half game behind the conference leader. The Miners are third in the conference for points per game, averaging 81.1 points. The team has a 2.54 turnover margin this year, an area to watch this game as UIS holds a negative turnover margin at -0.14.
Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) and
Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) both rank in the GLVC top ten for scoring this year, averaging 17.2 and 16.5 points per game.
Adam Rickman's (Washington, MO/St. Francis Borgia) 51 steals this season are the 11th-most in a season in S&T history, with the sophomore positioned to add to that total with another seven games left in the regular season. His 2.55 steals per game ranks in 14th in Division II this season.
About the Prairie Stars
Illinois Springfield was enjoying their longest win streak of the season at five wins last week before dropping a game at McKendree 77-69 to end the run. The Prairie Stars are one of the best shooting teams in the GLVC, ranking second in field goal percentage at 47.8% and third in three-point percentage at 39%. They lead the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio with a 1.48 mark that is also 17th in Division II.
Jordan Rice is the Prairie Stars' leader in both scoring and assists this season, averaging 16.1 points per game and 5.1 assists per game that leads the conference and ranks 18th in Division II. Alex Stell has led the team in rebounds, averaging 8.5 per game and ranking 13th in Division II for that metric. Isaiah Davis is Division II's top long-range threat, averaging a division-high 3.62 three pointers per game. He also ranks 18th in Division II for three point percentage (43.4%) and 20th in three point attempts (175).
