Miners Battle RV Southern Arkansas to Close Alvy Early Memorial Classic

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Missouri S&T softball closed the Alvy Early Memorial Classic on Sunday with a 15–4 setback to receiving votes Southern Arkansas University, as the Muleriders used a big third inning to pull away.

Southern Arkansas jumped out early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first, but the Miners responded in the top of the second inning. Tori Thompson (Chandler, AZ/Basha) provided the highlight for Missouri S&T, launching a two-run home run to center field to cut the deficit and briefly swing momentum back toward the Miners.

The game turned in the third inning, when Southern Arkansas scored 10 runs on eight hits to create separation. Missouri S&T continued to battle offensively, finishing with six hits and four runs in the contest, while showing patience at the plate with four walks. Thompson led the Miners from the seventh spot in the lineup, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

AJ Agers (DeSoto, MO/St. Pius X) got the start in the circle for Missouri S&T, striking out one in her inning of work, while the Miners remained sharp defensively, committing no errors on the day. Despite the result, Missouri S&T showed flashes of offensive power and clean defense as it wrapped up the weekend.

What's Next
Missouri S&T returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 12, for a doubleheader against Thomas More, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The games will be played at the University of Illinois Springfield in Springfield, Illinois.
