ROSEMONT, Ill. – Missouri S&T softball went 0-2 on Friday during day three of the Rosemont Dome Invite, falling to St. Cloud State and Ferris State.
Game 1 – St. Cloud State 6, Missouri S&T 1
St. Cloud State used a big third inning to pull away from the Miners in the opener.
The Huskies struck first with a triple in the top of the first before adding five runs in the third, highlighted by a grand slam that pushed the lead to 6-0.
Missouri S&T continued to battle in the circle and defensively after the early surge. Riley Wilkinson (Marshall, MO/Marshall) provided a strong relief outing, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out three.
Mia Miller (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) got the start and recorded three strikeouts in two innings of work.
Offensively, the Miners were limited to two hits, with Claire Lopez (Olathe, KS/Olathe Northwest) and
Taylor Nelson (Hailey, ID/Phillips Exeter Academy) each collecting one. Nelson drove in S&T's lone run as the Miners worked to generate momentum late in the contest.
Game 2 – Ferris State 10, Missouri S&T 5
In the nightcap, Ferris State capitalized on a multi-run second inning to take control early. The Bulldogs plated five runs in the frame, taking advantage of timely hits and defensive miscues to build separation.
Missouri S&T answered with offensive production of its own, finishing with five runs. Trista Grobe (DeSoto, MO/DeSoto) led the Miners with two RBIs from the middle of the lineup, while Lopez went 2-for-3 at the plate and stole two bases. The Miners continued to show patience offensively, drawing four walks in the game.
AJ Agers threw five innings in the circle, working through traffic and limiting Ferris State to four earned runs. Despite the final score, S&T continued to apply pressure offensively and remained aggressive on the basepaths throughout the contest.
