Miners Push No. 12 Rogers State in Narrow Doubleheader Loss

ROLLA, Mo. – Missouri S&T softball battled a nationally competitive No. 12 Rogers State squad on Wednesday but came up just short in both games of a doubleheader, falling 4-0 and 4-3 in tightly contested matchups.

Game 1 – Rogers State 4, Missouri S&T 0
The Miners were limited offensively in the opener but received a strong outing in the circle from Mia Miller (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo), who worked six innings and allowed just two earned runs while scattering five hits. Rogers State pushed across a run in the first and capitalized on a Miner miscue in the second to extend its lead, but S&T's defense settled in and kept the deficit manageable the rest of the way.

Missouri S&T recorded four hits in the game, with Keira Jones (Richmond Hill, GA/Richmond Hill), Morgan Williams (Midland, MI/Midland), Claire Lopez (Olathe, KS/Olathe Northwest), and Taylor Nelson (Hailey, ID/Phillips Exeter Academy) each collecting one. The Miners worked three walks and continued to compete at the plate throughout, but were unable to break through against the Hillcat pitching staff.

Game 2 – Rogers State 4, Missouri S&T 3
The nightcap showcased the Miners' resilience and offensive firepower. Taylor Nelson (Hailey, ID/Phillips Exeter Academy) sparked S&T early with a two-run home run to left field in the first inning, giving the Miners an early 2-0 advantage. Nelson finished 2-for-3 with two RBI, while AJ Agers (DeSoto, MO/St. Pius X) added two hits as well.

After Rogers State tied the game in the second and took the lead in the third, Missouri S&T continued to apply pressure offensively, drawing four walks and turning a key double play defensively. The Miners played error-free softball in the second game of the doubleheader and held the Hillcats within reach throughout the contest. Despite the narrow setback, S&T showed fight until the final out in a one-run game against a strong opponent.

What's Next
