ROLLA, MO -- Missouri S&T Men's Volleyball picked up their sixth win of the season tonight, sweeping Edward Waters University in their home opener.
Nate Meyer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) hit a career-high .833 in the match, putting down 10 kills on 12 attempts with no errors.
After trailing 7-5, the Miners claimed their first lead of the match at 8-7 after kills from Meyer and
Camden Seaver (Palatine, IL/William Fremd). Back-to-back blocks from
Tyler Johnwick (Lombard, IL/Glenbard East) would aid another 3-0 run for S&T, pushing their lead to three at 11-8. Edward Waters reeled the Miners back in over the next several points, cutting the deficit to one before another 3-0 run by the Miners created some more breathing room for the host team. Kills from Meyer,
Caleb Rohlwing (Barrington, Ill./Barrington), and
Aaron Sallade (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) would close out the set at 25-18 for the Miners, ending it on a 5-1 run.
A pair of Meyer kills and an ace from Rohlwing put the Miners up 7-4 early in the second frame, but the Tigers answered with a 3-0 run to tie the game at 7-7. Seaver, Meyer, and Rohlwing combined for four blocks in a 5-1 run for S&T, building a 13-9 lead. They would double their lead a short while later, putting together a 4-1 run on kills by Seaver and Johnwick. Edward Waters was unable to score more than a single consecutive point in the final moments of the second set, with the Miners going up two sets to none on a kill by Rohlwing.
The Miners claimed the first six points of the third and final set, eventually stretching that lead to seven at 12-5. Kills from
Owen Price (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) and Johnwick along with aces by the latter and Rohlwing extended the Miner lead to ten at 22-12. EWU pieced together a 3-0 run late, but it was too little too late as the Miners claimed three of the final four points to win the set 25-16 and earn their first sweep of the season.
Meyer's 10 kills were a team-high, but it was Johnwick who had the most points, recording 8 kills, 2 aces, and 3 blocks. The team's 6 service aces are the most in a three-set match since March 21, 2025 vs Rockhurst.
