ROLLA, MO -- Missouri S&T Men's Volleyball is hosting Edward Waters tomorrow at 7pm for their home opener as they continue to receive votes in the national poll. The Miners are partnering with Imo's Pizza to give the first 100 fans in attendance free pizza.
About the Miners
S&T is 5-3 and receiving votes in the national poll after a big upset over #11 McKendree. They are 10th in the NCAA Division I/II for digs per set, recording 9.61 and 17th in hitting percentage at .286.
Tyler Johnwick (Lombard, IL/Glenbard East) and
Nate Meyer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) are the Miners' two biggest contributors to their hitting percentage, ranking 4th and 32nd in the country with hitting percentages of .457 and .335.
Bartrosz Chmielewski's 2.4 digs per set is the ninth-most in the nation, meanwhile
Grant Edmonds (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison) ranks 8th in assists per set with 10.27. The Miners have already combined for six Great Lakes Valley Conference Athlete of the Week awards, led by Edmonds who has three of this season's four Setter of the Week awards.
About the Tiger Pride
Edward Waters is 2-4 this year and is coming off a 3-1 victory over Warner University in Florida. Aces have been the Tiger Pride's bread and butter this year, averaging 1.56 per set and ranking 17th in the nation. Freshman outside Parfait Mugabo leads the team in service aces, recording 14 in 22 sets for a .64 average that is fourth in the nation.
Mugabo is Edward Waters' primary scorer, putting up 107.5 points and 88 kills. He ranks 2nd in the nation in points per set (5.25) and fifth in kills per set (4.22). Their next biggest contributor offensively is Richard Hendricks, a senior outside who is averaging 2.45 kills per set. Defensively, the Tiger Pride has nine athletes who have recorded blocks this season, led by Jordan Higgins with ten.
