INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) has revealed the first-ever All-Conference awards for GLVC Men's Volleyball, with Missouri S&T claiming Player of the Year, Libero of the Year, and Co-Coach of the Year along with seven all-conference honorees.
Nate Meyer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) was named the conference's first Player of the Year. Meyer led the conference in hitting percentage and points per set, ranking 12th and 13th on the national level for those categories. He also recorded the second-most kills per set, averaging 3.71 and ranking 14th in Division I/II for that statistic. The senior from Arlington Heights also contributed defensively, ranking seventh in the conference for digs per set and averaging 0.61 blocks per set.
Bartosz Chmielewski (Aurora, IL/Metea Valley) earned the Libero the Year honor. Chmielewski ranked 18th in the nation and 3rd in the conference for digs per set, averaging 2.23. He played a key role in victories over #11 McKendree and St. Thomas Aquinas, recording season-highs of 14 digs in both of those matches. Additionally, Chmielewski recorded an impressive .952 reception percentage.
Head Coach
Ryan Thompson earned Co-Coach of the Year honors, along with Roosevelt's Kelly Magliano. Thompson led the Miners to their most successful season in program history, guiding the team to a 17-6 season while going 11-3 in conference play. He coached the team to their first ranked win in program history, defeating #11 McKendree in four sets, earning him Volleyball Recap's Staff of the Week honor. The Miners were receiving votes in the national poll for the first time in program history this season and ended the year ranked #5 in the DII Coaches Poll by Off the Block.
The Miners recorded the most first-teamers out of any team in the conference, with Meyer,
Grant Edmonds (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison),
Tyler Johnwick (Lombard, IL/Glenbard East),
Caleb Rohlwing (Barrington, Ill./Barrington), and
Aaron Sallade (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) all earning First Team All-GLVC. Chmielewski and
Camden Seaver (Palatine, IL/William Fremd) both earned second team honors, while
Grogan Kraus (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell North) was the team's James R. Spalding Sportsmanship honoree.
