Miners Women's Soccer Stuns No. 16 McKendree

ROLLA, Mo. — Missouri S&T women's soccer had its biggest moment of the season Wednesday night against No. 16 McKendree University, claiming a 3-2 victory.

The Miners knocked off the Bearcats, snapping their seven-game winning streak with a dramatic goal from Aubrey Case (Yorktown, VA/Tabb) with just 11 seconds remaining.

S&T (7-3-2, 6-2-2 GLVC) struck twice in the opening 12 minutes to build an early advantage. Case opened the scoring in the seventh minute on an assist from Adriana Benassi (Lee's Summit, MO/Lee's Summit), and Carlye Bennett (St. Louis, MO/Saint Joseph's Academy) doubled the lead in the 12th minute on assists from Case and Benassi.

McKendree (11-2-0, 7-2-0 GLVC) continued to pressure the Miners throughout the opening half, but S&T goalkeeper Catie Riddle (Westland, MI/Churchill) kept the Bearcats off the board. Riddle finished the night with eight saves, including a penalty-kick save with just over two minutes remaining in the first half.

The Bearcats came out firing in the second half and cut the deficit in half when Lyla Karolczak scored in the 56th minute. McKendree continued to push forward and eventually found the equalizer in the 80th minute, again from Karolczak, bringing the score level at 2-2.

With the game appearing destined for overtime, the Miners found one final opportunity.

After a late flurry of S&T chances, Case delivered the decisive blow in the 90th minute, finding the back of the net at the 89:49 mark to give the Miners a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish.

Case finished the night with two goals and an assist, while Bennett added a goal. Benassi recorded two assists for the Miners.

S&T finished with 14 shots, including eight on goal, while McKendree recorded 20 shots and 10 on goal.

"Great win!" says Head Coach Matthew Perry. "Fantastic character! To be pegged back to 2-2 and still go on to win is big time! So proud of this group!"

The victory gives the Miners a major conference win and sends them into their next matchup at Lewis with momentum following one of the most dramatic finishes of the season.
