ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — Missouri S&T women's soccer made program history Saturday, earning a 3-2 road victory over Lewis to extend its winning streak to four games.
The Miners also recorded their fourth consecutive Great Lakes Valley Conference win, marking the first time in program history they have won four straight GLVC contests. The four-game winning streak is S&T's longest since 2003.
Missouri S&T (8-3-2, 7-2-2 GLVC) overcame a second-half deficit and twice answered Lewis goals before
Carlye Bennett (St. Louis, MO/Saint Joseph's Academy) delivered the decisive score in the 85th minute.
Lewis (5-7-1, 4-5-1 GLVC) opened the scoring in the 47th minute when Madisson Brown found the net off an assist from Elise Grant. The Miners responded in the 68th minute as
Ella Kramer (Liberty, MO/Liberty North) converted a penalty kick to even the score at 1-1.
Kramer struck again in the 80th minute, converting a second penalty kick to give S&T a 2-1 advantage. Lewis answered just over a minute later when Jordan Schaden scored off an assist from Anna Linsler to tie the contest at 2-2.
With the game hanging in the balance, Bennett found the back of the net in the 85th minute to put the Miners ahead for good and secure the 3-2 victory.
Kramer led S&T with two goals, both coming from the penalty spot, while Bennett added the game-winning goal. Goalkeepers
Catie Riddle (Westland, MI/Churchill) and
Madeline Falls (Gilbert, AZ/Benjamin Franklin Charter) combined for four saves as the Miners held off a Lewis attack that finished with 15 shots.
The victory continues a historic stretch for S&T, which has now won four consecutive games for the first time since 2003 while setting a new program record with four straight GLVC victories.
