ROLLA, MO -- Missouri S&T men's basketball fell to RV McKendree 70-59 in Thursday Night's home game in Gibson Arena. Blaise Beauchamp (Minnetonka, MN/Hopkins) led the Miners in scoring, putting up 23 points and hitting five three-pointers.
McKendree built a quick 5-0 lead with a layup and a three from Rini Harris, but back-to-back threes from Beauchamp started a 14-4 S&T run that gave the Miners a five point lead at 14-9. The Miners would not relinquish the lead until 10:13 in the first when a three from McKendree's Joshua Schönbäck hit a three-pointer that put the Bearcats up 21-19, aiding a 13-0 run for McKendree that built a 29-19 lead for the visitors. Beauchamp ended the Miners scoring drought less than a minute later, hitting a three and later a jumper as well to help the Miners close the deficit to five heading into halftime.
The Bearcats quickly returned their lead to double digits to start the second half, outscoring S&T 7-2 in the opening minutes to go ahead 51-40. They would lead by as many as 13 in the following minutes as the Miners scoring streak continued. Andrew Young (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) led a 7-0 run for the Miners, scoring five to make it a 57-51 game with 9:53 left. A triple from McKendree's Caleb Burton and a jumper from Harris made the deficit eleven again though. The Miners struggled offensively in the final fourth of the game, falling 70-59.
Beauchamp has now scored in double digits seven consecutive games, while Young's streak has extended to 39 double digit games in a row dating back to last season. Young also recorded his third double-double of the season, putting up 11 points and 10 rebounds. Defensively, Adam Rickman (Washington, MO/St. Francis Borgia) recorded a personal-best six steals in the game.
