Women's Basketball Shows Resilience in Road Test at UMSL

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Missouri S&T women's basketball battled through a tough road environment Thursday night but fell 67-55 to Missouri–St. Louis in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play at the Mark Twain Building.

The Miners stayed competitive throughout the contest and put together their strongest stretch after halftime. S&T shot over 50 percent from the floor in both the third and fourth quarters, trimming the deficit and keeping pressure on the Tritons down the stretch.

Norah Gum (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) led the Miners with 16 points, finishing 7-of-13 from the field while adding four rebounds and two blocks. Anna Gilbertson (Lake Zurich, IL/Lake Zurich) followed with nine points, while Kiarra Kilgore (Galesburg, IL/Galesburg) and Ava McCulla (St. Louis, MO/Parkway South) each contributed seven points. Savannah Campbell (Rolla, MO/Rolla) and Kilgore also pulled down a team-high six and five rebounds, respectively.

Missouri S&T found success attacking inside, scoring 38 points in the paint and holding its own on the glass with 34 rebounds. The Miners also forced 10 turnovers and turned them into transition opportunities, showing defensive energy throughout the night.

Despite the strong interior play and late surge, UMSL capitalized at the free-throw line in the final quarter to secure the win.
